Público recently invited #lcmartist Gonçalo Viana to create an illustration for their cover predicting some of the themes that will dominate 2022. The themes and how to approach them visually was left mostly up to Gonçalo (fun right?) He chose to focus on European politics, with the meddling of Russia, refugee crisis, Corona Virus (vaccines, new medicines), climate crisis and, to top it all off, a sprinkling of Portuguese politics on the top layer, with the two top contenders for Portugal’s upcoming general election — António Costa and Rui Rio, showering some of the European funds that have been approved for the Corona Virus economic relief (due to their big size and hoped effect, these relief funds have been called the European bazooka, hence they’re each carrying one).
