Here’s an absolutely beautiful series of illustrations by KAKO called “Histórias Extraordinárias” commissioned by Client: Companhia das Letras. Histórias Extraordinárias (Extraordinary Stories) was released in early December 2017. By January the first edition was already sold out. The book is a compilation of Edgar Allan Poe greatest stories, along with texts by Charles Baudelaire, Julio Cortázar and Jorge Luis Borges. It’s the ultimate Edgar Allan Poe book to have in your collection.

This was a book that took a lot of effort from many people to be created. When Kako first brought the ideas and concepts to Companhia das Letras’ AD Alceu Nunes, he said “We will need an engraver and I just know who to call.” Alceu introduced Kako to the amazing veteran engraver Espedito Costa. More than 40 years working as a metal engraver, Espedito is a master of his craft. Kako had a blast spending time with him. He couldn’t believe his eyes watching those hardened hands working on so delicate details. It made him realize how this craft is underused nowadays. Something to consider for future covers.
