This is such a lovely piece by NAFTALI BEDER. The piece Naftali calls “Forgiveness” is for an article for Scientific American called “Does The Justice System Neglect Forgiveness? Research suggests that less punitive options may lead to better trial outcomes for both victims and criminals.” The article is quite interesting so I encourage reading it. My favorite take was this: forgiveness = “potential to curb the hate and violence that fuels a cycle of revenge and retribution.”
