“Do you support breastfeeding? I always am surprised and a little sad at this question when a parent asks it in a parent interview at my office. Who is not supporting breastfeeding? It is the number 1 thing you can do to support your child’s health in the first few months. Of course there are reasons that some family’s can not breastfeed, and your child can most certainly be perfectly healthy on formula, but every health practitioner should be supporting breastfeeding shouldn’t they. New moms should not need to ask me this. It should be a given though sadly it is not. Breastfeeding is truly a miracle and efforts should be made and encouraged to keep breastfeeding regardless of the noise surrounding you if it is something you would like to do as a mother.”
