Malaria: blood, sweat and tears

I was truly honored to be present at this amazing Exhibition Opening with inspirational speeches about from the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium. If you haven’t seen this magnificent exhibition, don’t miss out as it closes soon.

The exhibition shows the complex relationships between malaria, poverty and the need for international and national support for combating the disease on a grand scale. With only five years to achieve their goals, investing in malaria control not only contributes to reaching the MDG’s, but also builds a health system to sustain progress beyond their deadline.

Malaria will kill at least 700,000 children this year. In 2009, a minimum of 250,000,000 people contracted the disease, and almost half of the world’s population was at risk. Malaria does more than just kill people; its devastating economic toll has destroyed untold dreams of a better life.
