VIDHYA NAGARAJAN | SPOTLIGHTING OUR FEMALE ARTISTS IN MARCH CELEBRATING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH!

March 08, 2021    Vidhya Nagarajan

Celebrating Women’s History Month! Please meet our next fearless female #lcmartist VIDHYA NAGARAJAN! We’ve seen Vidhya grow so much over the years, it’s been such a pleasure to see her work evolve. The last few years have been a wild ride from her dream job of being a illo journalist to creating 100’s of gifs on social issues, Vidhya just doesn’t stop and is truly a force to be reckoned with. Now lets get on with learning more about this pizza-loving queen!

My name is: Vidhya Nagarajan

Home is:  New York City

I’ve been an illustrator for: 11 years.

Why did you want to be an artist? I’ve always loved drawing.

The best thing about being a female artist is: seeing the world through our perspective

My typical work day looks like: Pandemic schedule: I usually get out of bed at 8 and make coffee right away. I take a shower and start working by answering emails,  sketching, and finishing finals. I’ll take a break to eat and go for a walk and come back and work some more until 7 or 8 or later. I know that sounds late, but there are countless distractions that take place during the workday!

What inspires me: It is endless! But here are a few in no particular order: New York City, birds, dinosaurs, coffee, art supplies, mishaps, podcasts, pizza shops, aquariums.

Who inspires me: Bugs Bunny, Zaha Hadid, Wes Anderson, Tina Fey, Jim Henson, my family, friends and peers.

Favorite Artist: Again, this is endless! But right before the Pandemic I went to the Miro Museum in Barcelona and found a new appreciation for his work. ( that is where the pic is taken)

Favorite Author: Haruki Murakami

Favorite Movie: Jurassic Park

Favorite Music: that’s too hard

If you had to describe yourself as a color, what would it be and why? Black. I love it.Most people don’t know that: I don’t have a good sense of smell. I can hardly smell.

3 fun facts about me are:

1.I like to try the pizza in every country I go to.

2. Me and my friend were kicked out of a Golden Globes event.

3 .I can’t make the shaka hand sign with my left hand. My fingers just don’t know what to do. It’s bizarre.

Biggest pet peeve: I’m pretty sure I have Misophonia. I can’t stand the sound of people eating, unless I am too.

If there was one place I could travel to right now it would be: Portugal

My biggest accomplishment is: Just staying alive!

I’m most grateful for: My Health
