MICHAEL BYERS | CELEBRATING 150 YEARS | AI DEFIANCE FOR LIBRARY JOURNAL
October 15, 2026 Michael Byers
The pushback on AI is real—and it isn’t just about data centers.
We’re talking about potential job losses, the growing annoyance with AI “slop” online, concerns about privacy and security, and the feeling that a narrative of AI’s inevitability is being pushed by some of the world’s biggest corporations. There’s also the sense that AI is creeping into everything—and that we’re increasingly being asked, or even forced, to use it.
It can feel like an endless loop of questions, concerns and uncertainty.
#lcmartist Michael Byers couldn’t have painted a more fitting picture for this months cover of Library Journal. A striking visual about the tension between people, technology and the increasingly powerful reach of AI.
We’re definitely feeling the tug of the robot’s hand.
