Here’s the 2nd part of #lcmartist Vidhya Nagarajan series of illustrations for Discover Magazine earlier this year for an article called “Playing with the Past.” It’s all about how museum exhibitions are utilizing play and interactivity through AR and multimedia sound and video to engage visitors in the subject of extinct animals. At the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Science in Brussels, gruesome audio is heard before a visitor sees a taxidermy display. “The thylacine was a striped marsupial that lived on the Australian island of Tasmania at the time of their extinction after European colonizers arrived on Tasmania in the early 1800s, they introduced bounties to hunt and kill thylacines falsely branding them as livestock killers. Thylacine numbers dwindled from 5000 to 1 in a matter of a century with the last living individual dying in 1936 at the Beaumaris Zoo in Hobart.”
